Dr. Rachel S Klopfer

Veterinarian

Dr. Klopfer grew up in Ithaca NY and graduated from Cornell University in 1991. After a summer being part of a homing pigeon project, she realized she was enchanted with the husbandry and medical care aspect of the project. She went on to pursue her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, graduating in 1997. She then completed a small animal rotating medical, surgical, and emergency veterinary internship program at Boston Road Animal Hospital in Springfield, MA. Dr Klopfer then worked in Eastern MA for over 20 years, working in private practice, and being active in many animal shelters and with many spay/neuter programs. She was on staff at the MSPCA in Methuen, MA for 10 years and continues to volunteer when she can. Dr. Klopfer has traveled to the Dominican Republic to participate in Project Samana 5 times as a team member and co-leader and she is on the Project Samana board. This is a veterinary medical operative that focuses on sterilization and salvage procedures, urgent care, and humane education.

Dr Klopfer recently moved back to the Pioneer Valley with her husband, her teenage children, her furry entourage, and a bearded dragon. She is thrilled to be back here, surrounded by hiking and running trails and the warm community. Dr Klopfer feels so lucky to be able to work for her previous Boston Road colleague Dr Ellis in his practice that is committed to genuine connections to clients and to a bonded staff that feels like family. Dr Klopfer is grateful for the opportunity to practice high quality medicine with integrity and compassion. She sees her role as your veterinarian to provide all the information she can, discuss the most progressive options and also the more conservative approaches for prevention and treatment, and then to consider the whole picture with her clients to help them make the best decision for them and their particular pet. This involves being mindful of owner circumstances regarding things such as finances, time, physical ability, comfort level, living arrangements, patient cooperation, and more. Good communication is paramount to Dr Klopfer as is practicing without judgement.

Dr Klopfer is looking forward to meeting you and your pets!
